ABOUT OUR ARTIST
Hannah Nowlan is an emerging artist having completed her Bachelors in Fine Art Drawing and Printmaking with Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) in 2015, Hannah currently works out of her home studio as a visual artist and partner in her family business ‘Grain of Descent’.
Considerably influenced by the surf culture of Victoria’s coastline, Hannah’s practice attempts to communicate relaxed and therapeutic atmosphere of Australia’s vast natural landscapes. A primitive language is formed through Hannah's paintings that speaks directly of person and place.
Hannah’s latest body of work, ‘Cerberus’ physically tied to the location of her home, Black Rock where the iconic Cerberus shipwreck resides, captures the sense of a psychological state where the fragility of a once robust warship is conveyed in the emotive language of colour. With a sophistication and insight beyond her emerging status, Nowlan unites mythology and story telling with a visual allegory that is both compelling and beautiful.
